At Virginia Women’s Center, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting those in need. That’s why we are excited to announce our upcoming diaper drive, in partnership with Little Hands Virginia, to help wipe out diaper need in Greater Richmond! Little Hands Virginia is an amazing organization with whom we’ve partnered before to help area families. Little Hands Virginia ensures that all donated items go to families truly in need.
Did you know that 1 in 2 families in our community experiences diaper need? This startling statistic is a significant increase from 1 in 3 families before the pandemic. Additionally, 40% of children in Richmond are living below the poverty threshold, making access to diapers a real challenge for many families.
Diaper need is not just about diapers; it has a profound impact on our community’s health, child welfare, financial stability, and the overall well-being of parents and babies. Lack of diapers can lead to many issues, including child abuse, loss of wages (when your child can’t go to daycare because he/she doesn’t have any diapers), and added stressors on families who are already facing many challenges.
We have an incredible opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families in our community. Next week, we aim to help collect 200,000 diapers to help end diaper need in the Greater Richmond Area through the end of the year. And we need your help to achieve this goal!
Bring a package of unopened diapers, ranging from newborn to size 7, pull-ups in any size, or a container of diaper wipes to the designated collection points in our office next week. Share the campaign on your social media channels using the hashtag #wipeoutdiaperneed to spread the word and encourage others to participate.
Together, we can make a tremendous impact on the lives of those in need in our community. Let’s come together, show our generosity, and support families facing diaper need.
