“I want patients to be excited to come to the doctor, not to dread it. Prevention is my focus—I’m a firm believer in the power of lifestyle medicine. I’m passionate about educating patients on health, fitness, and overall well-being to prevent a myriad of diseases. Witnessing your health improvements and the joy on your face when we achieve milestones together. That’s my ultimate reward!”
~ Dr. Nick Platamone

Nicolas Platamone, DO, is a compassionate primary care physician at the Short Pump location of Virginia Women’s Center. A strong desire to work in a field where he could have a significant impact drove Dr. Platamone’s decision to pursue medicine. While he initially envisioned himself as a sports medicine physician, his experiences during medical school and family medicine residency reshaped his perspective.

Driven by a passion for forming genuine connections with his patients, Dr. Platamone’s approach to healthcare goes beyond mere treatment. His focus lies in helping people lead healthy and fulfilling lives through both preventative and acute care. His unwavering commitment to listening, understanding, and fostering relationships helps his patients get excited about their health journey.

For Dr. Platamone, prevention is paramount. He firmly believes in the power of lifestyle medicine and is dedicated to educating his patients about health and fitness as primary preventatives for various diseases. The most rewarding moments in his practice come from witnessing his patients’ health improvements, celebrating victories like improved A1C levels, and guiding them toward a medication-free life through lifestyle changes.

Having roots in Virginia, Dr. Platamone feels deeply connected to the local community. A proud alumnus of Virginia Military Institute, he loves exploring Richmond’s food scene, frequenting farmers’ markets, and enjoying the city’s vibrant culture. When not caring for patients, Dr. Platamone spends every minute he can with his wife, the other Dr. Platamone (an OBGYN at Virginia Women’s Center), and their three dogs. He loves to mountain bike, rock climb, hike, play soccer, and exercise in general. In his quieter moments, he enjoys gardening and tending to plants, playing video games, and collecting fine bourbon. Dr. Platamone and his wife are big foodies, and they love to cook together.

To his future patients, Dr. Platamone offers more than medical expertise; he extends a hand of partnership. Approachable, understanding, and genuine, he is here to guide you on your health journey. He wants his patients to be open, honest, and ready to embark on a path to better health together. Dr. Platamone is ready to make your healthcare experience as positive and empowering as possible.
