Dr. Jennifer Mahan’s journey to becoming an OB/GYN is deeply personal, inspired by her grandfather, who also dedicated his career to this field. From a young age, she was fascinated by the miracle of childbirth and aspired to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps to become a physician. This dream solidified during her women’s health rotation in medical school, where she discovered her calling to care for women through all stages of life, mirroring her grandfather’s legacy.

Dr. Mahan is a dedicated physician who believes in the power of listening to her patients. She strives to make each individual feel fulfilled and heard, ensuring they understand their concerns are taken seriously. Even when a medical answer isn’t immediately available, Dr. Mahan reassures her patients of her commitment to finding a solution, providing them with a sense of hope and confidence throughout their medical journey.

Dr. Mahan is passionate about adolescent care and the early reproductive years. She enjoys educating young women about their bodies, debunking common myths, and guiding them through contraception, safe sex, menstrual issues, and family planning. Additionally, she is dedicated to supporting peri- and postmenopausal patients with issues like urinary complaints, pelvic organ prolapse, and many other changes associated with hormone loss. But, she admits there is nothing as precious as delivering babies and witnessing the priceless moment when a mother first lays eyes on her child.

Dr. Mahan dreams of owning a cozy little bookstore outside of her medical career. She is married to her high school sweetheart, and they have a young son. After spending six years in Clearwater, Florida, they moved back to Richmond to be closer to family. Dr. Mahan loves reading thrillers and fantasy novels, traveling with her family, and enjoying a good margarita and queso.

For Dr. Mahan, Richmond is more than just a city. It’s a place she calls home. She cherishes everything the city offers, from shopping on Cary Street to boating on the James River, attending Flying Squirrels games, and exploring craft breweries and new restaurants. But most importantly, Richmond is special because it is where her family is.
