We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Madeline Coulter to Virginia Women’s Center as the newest member of our incredible urogynecology team.

At VWC, we believe women deserve care that puts them first, care that listens, understands and helps them live their healthiest, most active lives. That’s exactly what drew Dr. Coulter to medicine and specifically to urogynecology. She finds it especially meaningful to help women regain confidence, comfort, and the freedom to do the things they love by improving their urine or bowel leakage, prolapse or other pelvic floor issues.

Dr. Coulter’s goal is to create a welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable discussing symptoms that can be difficult or embarrassing to share. She takes the time to explain how symptoms may relate to pelvic floor disorders and to help patients understand the treatment options available to them. No woman should feel that she has to suffer in silence. Pelvic floor concerns are common, and treatment options may include a range of non-surgical or surgical-based approaches tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Coulter wants her patients to feel empowered to speak openly about what they’re experiencing—even when they are unsure of the cause, worry their concerns may seem “silly,” or assume it’s simply something women “have to live with.” She hopes to encourage more women to learn more about their pelvic health and share that knowledge with the women in their lives.

She is also committed to improving healthcare quality beyond the exam room, on a systems-based practice level. During her time at Vanderbilt, Dr. Coulter served on the Executive Quality Committee and as the Urogynecology liaison for the OB/GYN Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Task Force, focusing on improving post-operative outcomes through a tailored approach.

Dr. Coulter played varsity lacrosse at Wesleyan University and served as team captain. She brings that same spirit of collaboration, resilience, and commitment to her work. Outside of work, she enjoys exercise, reading, audiobooks, movies, trying new restaurants around Richmond, and hiking.
